How do you want to feel when you grow up?  Should anyone have ever even asked you that question, chances are ‘adulting’ is not turning out to be quite the bed of roses you hoped you’d be laying on, let alone delivering a bouquet of them to make you feel special.

Mid-fifties, Maxine was utterly lost. Prolonged unresolved grief, lingering Covid brain fog, menopause and that insidious syndrome of chronic over-giving in both her personal and professional lives, left her depressed and far adrift from any sense of self. In her own words: ‘My mind was so thoroughly screwed, it should have smoked a cigarette.’

Enter the ‘grand gesture’ to herself.  To walk, mostly alone and unsupported, on a roughly 3000-kilometre route diagonally across Europe, from Calais to Istanbul.

A homage to the self-affirming and healing powers of radical selfishness, Maxine challenges not only herself, but the great taboo of committing sustained and quality time to oneself. She pulls no punches in her brutally honest account of a mid-life / mid-love crisis and the (few million) steps she took to finding her way, her mettle and her sense of purpose.

Join her four-month journey. Groan and laugh along with her tribulations, observations and reflections: learn from her methods and mistakes.  Most of all, let her message of inspiration sweep you off your feet to do something that could make you feel special again too.
